1249 is spring-assisted, providing extra closing force for heavier doors or those with significant air resistance, while the
1246 operates manually

- Reduced Maintenance: The cam-rise action lifts the door slightly as it opens, which reduces friction and gasket wear, even on irregular floors.
- Ease of Installation/Replacement: They are surface-mounted (drilled and countersunk for 1/4" flat head screws) and can be reversed manually for different door handing without disassembly.
