Role:
- The thermostat acts as the "brains" of the cooling system, a crucial component for the refrigerator to function correctly.
How it works
- Sensing temperature: The thermostat contains a sensor (either mechanical or digital) that monitors the inside air temperature.
- Comparing to setpoint: It compares this sensed temperature to the desired temperature set by the user, typically through a dial or digital display.
- Activating the compressor:
- If the temperature is too warm, the thermostat sends a signal to turn the compressor on, activating the cooling cycle.
- Once the desired temperature is reached, the thermostat sends a signal to turn the compressor off, preventing overcooling.
- Maintaining efficiency: This on-and-off cycling helps the refrigerator use energy efficiently by only running the compressor when necessary, preserving food quality and lowering energy consumption.
